A piece of Van Halen history is going up for auction.
It’s the Kramer CO176 guitar that Eddie Van Halen plays in the video for “Hot For Teacher”. According to Sotheby’s, the poplar wood guitar was custom-made by Paul Unkert of Kramer Guitars for Eddie Van Halen. From 1983 and 1984 it was one of Eddie’s main guitars until Alan Holdsworth introduced Eddie to basswood.
The guitar was gifted to the band’s drum tech, Gregg Emerson, in 1990 and currently belongs to a collector in Huntington Beach, CA.
The starting bid for the guitar is $1,800,000; however, it is expected to fetch between $2 to 3 million when bidding closes on April 18th.
