Bono is in New York City this week for the first run of his “Stories of Surrender” solo show.
The U2 frontman kicked things off Sunday night at the Beacon Theater, joined by musicians Gemma Doherty, Kate Ellis, and Jacknife Lee.
The show is billed as a night of “words, music, and some mischief” in support of his memoir “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story”.
Describing his memoir, Bono said, “Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me. Growing up in Ireland in the seventies with my fists up (musically speaking), it was not a natural concept…I am still grappling with this most humbling of commands. In the band, in my marriage, in my faith, in my life as an activist.”
A total of 10 shows at the Beacon are scheduled through May.
“Stories of Surrender” is inspired by U2’s recently released album “Songs of Surrender“. In March, the band released 40 reimagined songs spanning U2’s career.
