James Hetfield says metal will never die.

In a new interview, the Metallica singer said he understands the common argument that ‘rock is dead,’ but claims heavy metal will live on.

Hetfield said the genre is an ‘underground’ aesthetic that will always have its place.

He explained, “It’s a misfit music. It’s an underground feeling still. It’s like a rebel music. It’s a thing you need to fight for. You know every decade, ‘Rock is dead.’ That is fuel for a hard rock band absolutely.’
