Nikki Sixx is talking sobriety.
The Mötley Crüe bassist has been clean since 2004 and lives quietly in Wyoming with his wife of nine years and their three-year-old daughter Ruby.
In a new interview, Sixx, who was once declared dead of a heroin overdose for two minutes before being revived by a paramedic explained,
“I’ve been sober for a long time. Staying sober isn’t difficult. I try to remember who I am on a daily basis as a human being, not as a rock star. I try to be the best version of myself, as a husband, a father, a bandleader, a writer. Sobriety comes before anything else in my life. If I use drugs or alcohol, I will lose my family, my band, my house, my financial security. If I use drugs or alcohol, I will lose everything, so there’s nothing more important to me.”
In 2013, when Sixx celebrated nine years of sobriety, he explained “By letting go of self and ego, working a program that connects you to a higher power and giving back to those still struggling are just some of the important things you learn through sobriety…You get to repair the damage done from drink, drugs and horrific behaviors.”
