The Beatles Feared They Would ‘Fizzle Out’ Until They Came to America

Believe it or not, The Beatles were fearful their career would “fizzle out,” but those fears went away when they first came to the United States.

In an excerpt from his new photo book ‘1964: Eyes of the Storm,’ Paul McCartney writes, “By the end of February 1964, after our visit to America and three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, we finally had to admit that we would not, as we had originally feared, just fizzle out as many groups do. We were in the vanguard of something more momentous, a revolution in the culture.”

Sir Paul also described landing at JFK Airport as “bedlam, mass hysteria.”

The Beatles’ suspicions have continuously been proven incorrect. Their music remains loved so much so that the band recently became the 406th track to join Spotify’s Billions Club.

“Here Comes the Sun” surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. The George Harrison-penned track from the ”Abbey Road” album is the first Beatles song to do so.

‘1964: Eyes of the Storm’ was released on June 13th.
