Billy Corgan Admits Smashing Pumpkins Hit ‘Ripped Off’ a Rush Song

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan says his first breakout hit was basically a Rush knockoff.

Corgan once admitted that the opening of “Cherub Rock” is “ripped off from ‘By-Tor and the Snow Dog’ by Rush. It’s a straight rip-off of Rush.”

Corgan has always been open about his love of classic rock, from Rush to Black Sabbath to Van Halen.

Smashing Pumpkins will be hitting the road with Interpol and Stone Temple Pilots on the ‘The World Is A Vampire’ tour. Stone Temple Pilots will join the first half of the tour, with Interpol joining up for the back half.

The tour kicks off July 28th with two shows in Las Vegas, Nevada, and wraps up September 9th in Noblesville, Indiana. ‘The World Is A Vampire’ will make a stop at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
