Since he joined the Foo Fighters, drummer Josh Freese has caught his fair share of backlash from fans of the musician he replaced, the late Taylor Hawkins who died unexpectedly in March. But Freese admits that hasn’t been the most intimidating thing about becoming a member of the band.
“Playing drums behind one of the world’s greatest drummers is a total trip,” Freese writes on social media. “Surprisingly, not nerve wracking — but really just inspiring and fun. And that’s the truth, Ruth.”
Freese’s showing of respect for the former Nirvana drummer says a lot, considering his impressive resume. Over the years, he’s performed with such legendary acts as Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Sublime With Rome, The Offspring, Danny Elfman and Sting, to name a few.
Bay Area fans can see the Foo Fighters perform with new drummer Josh Freese at Outside Lands as they headline the festival on Saturday, August 12th.
