It takes a lot to rattle Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain. During a recent show in Dublin, he was hit by a falling gong and managed to keep playing.
Yes, we said ‘falling gong’ – during “Alexander The Great”, lead singer Bruce Dickinson climbed a riser to hit a massive 40-inch symphonic gong – only to send the whole thing crashing down onto McBrain’s back.
Nicko was momentarily stunned, but kept the beat going throughout.
“This is a beautiful Paiste gong. They made this specially for me.” McBrian said while introducing his new drum kit which features the 40-inch gong. “They have to make these to order, and I ordered it, like, two months before the tour started — a couple of months ago — and bless their hearts, the guys over in Hamburg at the gong factory made this for me.”
Iron Maiden wrapped up their ‘The Future Past Tour’ over the weekend in Milan, Italy.
