Green Day debuted a new song called “1981” in Quebec on Sunday night.
The surprise song occurred during their festival set on July 16th at Quebec City’s Plaines d’Abraham. In addition the surprise of a lifetime for some fans, the band played 23 other songs.
Fans can hear frontman Billy Joel Armstrong singing “She’s gonna bang her head like 1981” in this song.
There is no word on when the never-before-heard track will be released. Until there is more information, watch the performance of Green Day’s “1981′ on repeat below.
This isn’t the first performance where Armstrong has shocked a crowd. In May, Armstrong amazed a North London audience by joining the covers band, Borderline Toxic, on stage. The legendary rocker performed Green Day’s Basket Case.
“Eleven-year-old me panicked,” lead singer Kerry Glass told the BBC. “I think I did three circles just running around the stage until he was like, ‘Come on, sing with me’.”
“It took a minute to settle,” says Kerry. “And then I was like, ‘You know, I’m going to enjoy every single second of this’.”
Fans can see Green Day perform at the When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas from October 21st to October 22nd, 2023 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.
