Don’t expect ZZ Top to announce a farewell tour anytime soon – or ever, for that matter.
Frontman Billy Gibbons discussed the idea of doing a final tour and brought up a conversation he once had with the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards.
“He said, ‘Man, if we’re lucky enough to follow the words of Muddy Waters, he said, ‘Do it until you die.’ Of course, Muddy Waters was lucky enough to do just that. He was playing right up until the end. So we should be fortunate, I guess.”
ZZ Top is currently on the road with Lynyrd Skynyrd on the ‘Sharp Dressed Simple Man’ tour.
“We really liked the compositional elements that they put together. They had a bit of a different approach from ZZ Top, we being a trio and they of course had, not one, not two, but three guitar players. Of course, they were [also] augmented with piano.” Gibbons said recalling his earliest memory of Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Through the years, their lineup has maintained what I call a real sophisticated complexity. I don’t know if those two words go together, but they certainly pull it off.”
Bay Area fans can see ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd perform at Shoreline Amphitheatre on Thursday, August 10th. Listen to 107.7 the Bone for your chance to win tickets. Find all information here.
