49ers Status Report: Moody expected to play

With Nick Bosa’s contract done, the 49ers can get back to the task at hand: the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There are a host of question marks for the season opener, and San Francisco’s injury list is quite a bit lengthier than their opponent’s.

Here’s what the practice report for Wednesday looks like:

 Did Not Participate In Practice

  • C Jon Feliciano (illness)
  • T Trent Williams (not injury related – resting player)

Limited Participation in Practice

  • LB Oren Burks (knee)
  • S Tashaun Gipson (back)
  • S Talanoa Hufanga (knee)
  • TE George Kittle (groin)
  • RB Jordan Mason (foot)
  • WR Ray-Ray McCloud (wrist)
  • K Jake Moody (right quadricep)

Full Participation in Practice

  • S George Odum (shoulder)
  • QB Brock Purdy (right elbow)

That’s seven players who were limited, including McCloud, who was making his return to practice since fracturing his wrist. He told Kyle Shanahan at the time of his injury that he’d be back for the start of the season, and Shanahan said he has been fully cleared.

The most notable injury update was regarding the status of Jake Moody. The rookie kicker sustained a quad injury that kept him out of the preseason finale and has been working back.

He’s been taking kicks and progressing, with Shanahan saying he’s expected to play.

“Just as long as he doesn’t have a setback,” Shanahan said. “He’s looking good now and I feel good about him and I’d be surprised if he’s not there. So, we’ll keep going at the pace we’re at. As long as he doesn’t have a setback, we should be alright.”

The remaining players on that injury list were all involved in varying degrees on Wednesday, including George Kittle, who looked much like his normal self:

As for Pittsburgh, there are just two players on the injury report, and only one with an actual injury. Both were limited:

  • DT Cameron Heyward (not injury related – resting player)
  • DT Larry Ogunjobi (foot)

Sunday’s kickoff in Pittsburgh is slated for 10 a.m. PDT.
