A handful of lucky Pink Floyd fans got a sneak peek of Roger Waters’ new version of “The Dark Side of the Moon” – hosted by Waters himself.

Waters played the album for a select group at a Manhattan recording studio, along with a video explaining the album song-by-song.

He told the crowd “You’re the first lot that have sat in a room and listened to it… I’m going for a p**s and maybe half a glass of cheap white wine…turn the f***er up to 11!”

The ex-Floyd frontman decided to record his own version of the classic 1973 album for its 50th anniversary, adding a new 13-minute composition and several spoken-word passages.

There have been mixed reviews about Roger Waters’ decision to re-recording “Dark Side Of The Moon” – but one person who is supportive of the decision is one of the musicians who took part in recording the original.

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason says he’s heard a sample of Waters’ new version of the 1973 classic – and it isn’t bad.

“He actually sent me a copy of what he was working on,” Mason says. “And I wrote to him and said, ‘Annoyingly, it’s absolutely brilliant!’ It was and is. It’s not anything that would be a spoiler for the original at all; it’s an interesting add-on to the thing.”

“The Dark Side of the Moon Redux” will be out on October 6th.
