The benefit of the bruising punishment that is required to play a Thursday night game is that on the other side, there’s a significant break.
Despite that rest, the 49ers have a few key players out on Wednesday, and a couple others who are limited. Kyle Shanahan offered updates on five players:
OUT:
- Deebo Samuel (ribs, knee): Samuel has a rib and knee injury, according to Shanahan. The latter injury is new and the severity is unclear.
“It was something we didn’t really know until the next day, later in that day, just him being sore and stuff,” Shanahan said. “He didn’t realize it until later.”
- Jauan Jennings (shin)
- Dre Greenlaw (ankle)
Limited:
- Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder): There was no update on Aiyuk, but he likely could have played if the game was on Sunday, not Thursday. He should be good to go this week.
- Ambry Thomas (shoulder): Unless Shanahan misspoke, which is not out of the question on the injury front, it’s a shoulder injury for Thomas, who was previously listed with a knee injury.
There didn’t sounds like a great deal of concern for Shanahan with any of the injuries, but the first three names will be worth monitoring. San Francisco will host the Arizona Cardinals at 1:25 p.m. on Sunday at home.
