Brock Purdy demolished the Dallas Cowboys on national television on Sunday night, and it seems that folks may finally be coming around.
Through five weeks, Purdy has a 9-to-0 TD-to-INT ratio and per ESPN, he currently has a QBR of 83.7, which would be the fourth-highest QBR since the stat was tracked starting in 2006.
Before this weekend, Purdy was generally viewed with long odds, in the +1000 or higher range which indicated he was worth considering as an MVP candidate, but not a frontrunner. Sunday night, though, put him firmly in the MVP race, according to multiple sportsbooks. Here’s a roundup of a few MVP odds for Purdy tracked from a few major sources:
- Action Network: +700, 5th (behind Mahomes +350, Tagavailoa +500, Allen +600, Hurts +600), with Christian McCaffrey sixth at +1400
- FanDuel Sportsbook: +700, T-4th with Allen, (behind Mahomes +350, Tagavailoa +500, Hurts +600)
- DraftKings: +700, T-3rd with Allen, Hurts, (behind Mahomes +450, Tagavailoa +475)
- BetMGM and Bet365: +700, 5th (behind Mahomes +350, Tagavailoa +500, Allen +600, Hurts +600)
- Caesars: +550, T-3rd (behind Mahomes +425, Tagavailoa +525)
Overall, Purdy is firmly behind both Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagavailoa in the current MVP standings, and generally viewed in the same range as Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts.
That’s the top tier of candidates. Christian McCaffrey, meanwhile, is the clear next guy up in the following tier.
While Purdy is not the favorite, it’s a position that indicates he is a serious MVP candidate right now.
