49ers-Vikings Inactives: Pair of stars out for SF

The 49ers will be shorthanded on Monday night in Minneapolis.

Both Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams are officially inactive according to the team, along with the following players:

  • QB Brandon Allen (third QB)
  • DL Kalia Davis
  • TE Brayden Willis
  • LB Jalen Graham
  • RB Ty Davis-Price

Neither Samuel nor Williams’ absences are surprising. Kyle Shanahan said that Samuel suffered a hairline fracture of his shoulder and will miss at least Monday night and next Sunday’s contest against the Bengals before San Francisco’s bye week.

Williams sprained his ankle against the Cleveland Browns and held a doubtful designation heading into Monday.

Christian McCaffrey, however, is active, as is linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was dealing with a hamstring injury.

He’s dealing with an oblique injury that was reported by Jay Glazer to be a “slight little tear,” but will be play through the injury. He has yet to miss a game with the 49ers since being traded to the team and is on a streak of 15-straight games with a touchdown, tied for the second-longest such streak in NFL history (including the playoffs).

It would not be surprising to see a fair dose of Elijah Mitchell and/or Jordan Mason, the former of whom is healthy for the first time in multiple weeks after dealing with a knee injury. Samuel’s absence will likely increase Ray-Ray McCloud’s workload and potentially offer an avenue for rookie Ronnie Bell to get involved.

Below is the Vikings’ inactive list:

Minnesota also has star wide receiver Justin Jefferson on injured reserve.

Both teams also activated a couple players to their roster from the practice squad. San Francisco activated veteran receiver Chris Conley and corner Shemar Jean-Charles while the Vikings activated wide receiver Trishton Jackson and Luiji Vilain.
