This Friday, Halloween will arrive a little early for fans of Duran Duran.
That’s the day “Danse Macabre” – the band’s first Halloween-themed album – drops. The project will include three new songs, three creepy reworkings of old Duran songs and “spooky” covers of tracks originally recorded by the Rolling Stones, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Talking Heads and Billie Eilish, among others, according to frontman Simon Le Bon.
“We’d done some of the cover versions in our live show in Las Vegas,” Le Bon says, referring to a gig the band did last Halloween. “I think that was what was the trigger for the whole idea.”
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes explained, “The idea was born out of a show we played in Las Vegas on 31 Oct 2022. We had decided to seize the moment to create a unique, special event – the temptation of using glorious gothic visuals set to a dark soundtrack of horror and humor was simply irresistible.”
Bassist John Taylor claims the record will “offer an interesting insight into the personality of the band.”
As a Halloween treat for diehard fans, the album will feature the return of two Duran Duran alum: original guitarist Andy Taylor, who performed on several tracks, and Notorious co-producer Nile Rodgers, who helmed the project.
The album will be out on October 27th.
