Turns out Dolly Parton really was a rockstar all along.
The country legend’s new rock album, “Rockstar,” is the highest-charting album of Parton’s career, landing at #3 on the Billboard 200 with more than 118,000 physical copies sold.
“Wow, this is a big thrill!” Parton said in a statement. “I owe a thank you to the fans who have always been there for me. Their support made this achievement possible. I’d also like to thank my producer Kent Wells, all the wonderful artists, musicians, and engineers who brought their talents to this project.”
Leading up to its release, Dolly herself said the album may be one of her best yet, claiming “I really think it’s some of the best work I’ve ever done. I think so. Only because it’s different for me. I wanted it to be good.”
The legendary singer decided to make a rock album when she was nominated to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She thought, “Well, if they wanna give it to me anyhow, I’m going to accept it gracefully. And then I’m gonna go ahead and do a rock album and just make the most of it.”
