Geddy Lee Says Rush Almost Scrapped ‘Tom Sawyer’

“Tom Sawyer” is the biggest hit of Rush’s career – and the band almost left it off the album.

Geddy Lee told NPR’s World Cafe that they nearly scrapped the song while attempting to record it for Moving Pictures.

He says it was “a very difficult song to record… Every turn, something was going wrong.”

Of course, they did finish the song and the rest is history.  Lee says it shows that “It just goes to show you, I wouldn’t know a hit single if I tripped over it.”
