Stanford University Offering Grateful Dead Course

What a long, strange class it’s been – Stanford University is offering a course on the music of the Grateful Dead.

The course is titled ‘Psychedelia and Groove: The Music and Culture of the Grateful Dead’ and will be taught by journalist David Gans, host of the weekly radio show Grateful Dead Hour.

Gans says the course will “focus on their approach to touring, their cultural impact on society, their connections to art, literature, and social change, and the culture of their ‘Deadhead’ followers.”

He’s even assigned some recommended listening for students before the class begins – including Live DeadReckoning, and Europe 72 volumes 1 and 2.
