Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has taken a break from his war of the words with Sammy Hagar to direct his attention toward another target: Wolfgang Van Halen.
In a YouTube video titled “This Crazy Kid,” Roth complains about his onetime bandmate, who replaced bassist Michael Anthony when Roth rejoined the group. “This f***ing kid, he’s complaining the entire tour like I’m not paying enough attention to him on stage,” Roth says. “He’s complaining to everybody around me — the business manager, the security guy, the clothing lady.” Roth goes on to say that Van Halen retaliated by having two women Roth had invited to a show thrown out. “What this f***ing kid doesn’t know: they’re carrying the paychecks for all 82 people on the road crew,” Roth continues.
Although Van Halen has not yet responded to Roth’s rant, he discussed his relationship with him in a 2021 interview. “Dave is a … he’s very much a one-of-a-kind sort of guy,” he said. “We don’t really talk, if ever. We were always cordial on tour together, but it’s not like I’ve spoken to him at all in the last six years. But … I’m so happy for him and for everything that he’s accomplished. And he’s just a phenomenal.”
