Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan is a huge Prince fan – but when he got the chance to meet his idol face-to-face, it didn’t go well.

Duff told the story on a recent ep of the Broken Record podcast, about meeting Prince in Germany during the Diamonds and Pearls tour.

McKagan managed to get backstage and was told that Prince “heard I was there and would like to talk to me.”

Unfortunately, McKagan soon realized he was “way too drunk” and found an excuse to leave the room: “I don’t remember what happened.  I remember there was candles and stuff… and there’s Prince, and I don’t want to be here.”
