Wolfgang Van Halen recently set the record straight on a key piece of Van Halen lore – the nickname of Eddie Van Halen’s famous red-black-and-white guitar.

The guitar has been known as the ‘Frankenstein’ and the ‘Frankenstrat’ over the years – but Wolfgang says ‘Frankenstein’ is what’s written on the guitar case.

Wolfie told Chris Shiflett’s ‘Shred With Shifty’ podcast that his father “never really had a name for it, it’s just what people call it.”

Wolfgang used the famous guitar on Mammoth WVH’s second album Mammoth II.
