Soundgarden “about halfway through writing” next album

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell recently said in an interview with Billboard that the group is in the process of developing their next album.

From Billboard:

We’re about halfway through writing the new album. We’re not on a schedule. What I look forward to the most — because I tour so much, especially the last couple of years, by myself — is the camaraderie. It’s what we missed when we weren’t a band. When I do solo tours, I’m really kind of alone all the time, so that’s the best thing about it.

Metallica goes platinum with ‘Hardwired… to Self Destruct’

Hardwired… to Self Destruct is the tenth album for James Hetfield and Metallica to hit Platinum on the charts.

From Inquisitir:

Metallica’s latest album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct officially surpassed the 1 million mark in sales this month. In a little over five months, Metallica’s latest album has received not only critical acclaim, but appears to have hit home with fans as well. Metallica sold over 290,000 copies of Hardwired… to Self-Destruct in its first week of release, which is quite a feat considering the immense drop in album sales that have plagued the music industry over the past few decades. This latest Metallica album is the first hard rock or metal album to go platinum this decade, which only goes to show that Metallica is still the king of the hill in the genre.

Just over a year after his unexpected passing, Prince was named the top-selling artist of 2016. Prince had such hits as Purple Rain and 1999 jump up the charts in the months following his death.

From Billboard:

In the year after Prince‘s death on April 21, 2016, the Purple One’s catalog of albums and songs have sold a combined 7.7 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, through the week ending April 13. Of that sum, 2.3 million were in traditional album sales, and 5.4 million were from digital song downloads.
