Baby Huey’s Movie Review For War For The Planet Of The Apes

20th Century Fox presents War for the Planet of the Apes.

Premise:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

The cast is:

Andy Serkis as Caesar

Woody Harrelson as The Colonel

Steve Zahn as Bad Ape

After Directing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Matt Reeves is back to direct the third installment of the Planet of the Apes reboot series. Before I dig into the movie, I have to say all three of the recent Planet of the Apes movies have been great, it’s very rare that the third film of a trilogy is the best but this movie proves that theory wrong. The best part of this trilogy is that all three films are connected so well. This will go down as one of the all-time best movie trilogies.

I love that majority of the film was focused on the apes and them interacting with one another. The humans had a smaller role that I anticipated which is fine because let’s be honest in the first two movies, the human characters were never as entertaining as the apes, so whenever the movie was focused on the humans I was just telling myself hurry up and get back to the apes.

Between the storytelling, the action scenes and the amazing motion captured effects, this movie had me engaged the entire time. I have to give props to the people who edited this film and help produce the motion captured scenes, since this movie was heavily focused on the apes, that was a lot of work involved bringing this apes to life and they look so realistic. This might be the best motion captured film of all-time.

Andy Serkis needs to win an Oscar because his portrayal of Caeser is so well done. Andy Serkis does a great job with motion capture, he can deliver powerful lines and visually convey the emotions felt in the movie.

Props to Director Matt Reeves for directing this masterpiece. The action scenes were not just white noise, instead serve a purpose and set the tone and emotion for the characters.

I enjoyed that the characters had tough decisions to make and every step they made effects so many others. Even the storyline with the little girl was entertaining. Plus, Steve Zahn’s role as Bad Ape was the perfect balance of humor at the appropriate times in the movie.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes will go down as one of the best all-time trilogies.

I would rate the film: 9.5/10

Go see War for the Planet of the Apes when the movie hits theaters on Friday, July 14th.
