February 10th, 2018 would have been Cliff Burton’s 56th birthday, however thanks to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors who recently passed a new bill that declared February 10th, 2018 to be “Cliff Burton Day” in his hometown of Castro Valley.
With that being said Metallica are currently out on tour over in Europe and during their February 10th concert at Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy they performed one of Cliff Burton’s songs “Orion” from their album “Master of Puppets” in honor of Cliff Burton Day.
FYI, on why Metallica selected “Orion” as their song of choice to dedicate to Cliff Burton.
From Wikipedia: “Orion” is a multipart instrumental highlighting Burton’s bass playing. It opens with a fade-in bass section, heavily processed to resemble an orchestra. It continues with mid-tempo riffing, followed by a bass solo at half-tempo. The tempo accelerates during the latter part, and ends with music fading out. Burton arranged the middle section, which features its moody bass line and multipart guitar harmonies.
