Requiem Live at The Back Bar in San Jose 03-03-18

Last Saturday night I went to go see a band I have been wanting to see live for a long time. From Santa Cruz is an incredible band called Requiem. I first came across them about four years ago while on YouTube, thank you YouTube suggestions. I love their sound, mixture of punk rock, meets hardcore, metal with screams and some amazing clean vocals.

I immediately picked up their debut album “The Unexplainable Truth” at my local record store and fell in love with the band even more. What stood out to me is the great dynamic between lead singer Steven Juliano and guitarist/back up singer Jacklyn Paulette. I love how they take turns singing a Requiem song and it really takes you a fun emotional journey while listening.

A couple years ago I missed a chance to see them live in Oakland, originally I told myself they will be back and I’ll catch them next time. Unfortunately, some time later the band went on a hiatus and I began kicking myself because I thought I would never have the chance to see them live.

Jump ahead some time later, it was announced Jacklyn Paulette was back in the band and after some lineup changes the band was back together and working on new music. I got excited because once I heard the band got back together I expected a show to follow soon. Sure enough, Requiem announced a show at the Back Bar in San Jose. This was my chance to finally see them live, despite having an invite to see Machine Head at the Fox Theatre in Oakland on the same night, I didn’t want to miss seeing Requiem again.

Once Requiem hit the stage they started ripping through songs from their album “The Unexplainable Truth” followed by three new songs. All of which sounded great and I can’t wait for Requiem to release new material. I want to say thanks to the band for dedicating my favorite song by them “Sticks And Stones And Her Lovely Bones” to me during their set. That was very nice of them and I really appreciate it. Requiem finished their set with another song I love by them “Say Hello To The Devil For Me.” After their set I finally got to meet Jacklyn Paulette, wow, she is even more beautiful in person. I have to admit I started fanboying out, lol, I did my best to keep cool. Jacklyn was very nice and fun to hang out with at the bar. Requiem sounded amazing and the newer members of the band seemed like a great fit. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2018 and will definitely be checking them out again next time they play in the Bay Area.
