We all love Alex Trebek, the legendary host of one of the greatest tv shows of all time: Jeopardy! If you’re a fan, then you’re extra sad to hear that Alex’s last show as host will air January 8th, 2021. But here’s a story maybe you hadn’t heard.

Back in 2005, contestants Brett Rutter (along with Ken Jennings) were competing on Jeopardy! Ultimate Tournament of Champions. Rutter is one of the biggest winners in the show’s history ($4.6 million), and he was recently interviewed and fondly recalled a story about Alex that highlights the host’s sense of humor. Before the show started, they were chatting about how nervous they were, and how it would be funny to compete against each other without pants on, because the audience would never know (since the podiums cover their lower half). But they didn’t know their microphones were on during the discussion, and Alex Trebek heard every word. So Alex decided to lighten the mood by walking out onto the stage without his pants on.
