YouTube, @Billy F Gibbons.
Who doesn’t need a little rockabilly/surfer/desert/outlaw country/rock for your Friday, complete with vibey black-and-white video.
Hardware – the third solo album from ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons – is set to be released in June, and you can get a look at the new video for “West Coast Junkie” above. It’s Gibbons with his three-piece band (including GNR/Velvet Revolver/Cult drummer Matt Sorum), and the video shows them crammed into a studio/rehearsal space, rocking out like they’re in a Tarantino film. Complete with scantily clad dancing girls and isolated desert views. It’s fun. Exactly what we’d expect from the guy who formed ZZ Top, one of the coolest rock bands of all time, and certainly the best to come out of Houston, Texas. “We holed up in the desert for a few weeks in the heat of the summer and that in itself was pretty intense,” Gibbons said. “To let off steam we just ‘let it rock’ and that’s what Hardware is really all about. For the most part, it’s a raging rocker but always mindful of the desert’s implicit mystery.”
