A California man has been arrested in the theft of 42,000 pounds of pistachios.
The nuts were found to be missing last Thursday in a routine audit of the Touchstone Pistachio Company in San Joaquin Valley, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department. After following up on some leads, investigators tracked the missing nuts to a truck parked in a neighboring city, sheriff’s officials say. The pistachios were “being moved from 2,000 pound sacks into smaller bags for re-sale,” reads a sheriff’s report.
Alberto Montemayor, a 34-year-old driver for Montemayor Trucking, has been charged with the theft, court paperwork reveals.
