U2 Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. Will Not Play in Vegas Residency

U2 announced their upcoming Vegas residency with a Super Bowl ad on Sunday night. But drummer Larry Mullen Jr. won’t be joining the rest of the band in Sin City.

Last year, Mullen announced that he would not be touring in 2023 to focus on his health. Instead, 40-year-old Dutch drummer Bram van den Berg will fill in.

Premiering this fall, “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere” will mark the band’s first live show in four years and the second time in U2’s history that they’ve played a show without one of the four band members – Adam Clayton missed a single show during 1993’s Zoo TV tour.

The MSG Sphere venue boasts state-of-the-art technology and cost an estimated 1.8 billion dollars to build. It is expected to be the largest spherical structure in the world and will host concerts and sporting events.

The 17,500-seat venue will have the biggest indoor LED screen in the world, a 160,000-foot wraparound display and a custom spatial audio system with as many as 164,000 speakers.
