Just days after Marty Friedman joined his former band, Megadeth, onstage at Tokyo’s Budokan Arena, the guitarist is hinting at another potential reunion.
Friedman said another reunion could happen as early as this summer. “We are both playing at Wacken Open Air festival in Germany this summer,” he says, “so you never know.”
Friedman’s comments come three days after he reunited with Megadeth to perform “Countdown to Extinction,” “Tornado of Souls” and “Symphony of Destruction.” He says the most difficult part of revisiting his Megadeth days was performing his solos like fans remembered them.
“My playing has evolved so much since those songs came out, and there are so many nuances I would naturally do differently now,” Friedman explained. “I had to resist the urge to play it like I would in 2023 and stick to the original way.”
Reviewing how the reunion came to be, Friedman said the pitch was a simple one: “Dave said ‘We’re playing in Japan in February. You wanna jam?”
Fortunately for fans, Friedman said yes and performed with Megadeth for the first time in 23 years.
