Joe Perry, known best for Aerosmith, Hollywood Vampires, and the Joe Perry Project joins Chasta to about his busy touring schedule, the difference between Aerosmith and Hollywood Vampires, being healthy on the road, and collecting rock memorabilia.

Considering Perry is known for saying “Rock ‘n’ roll is a contact sport”, Chasta asked how he takes care of himself these days. Perry said he leans on his wife Billie as his “Voice of reason 90% of the time” and went on to say he “literally” is “alive today because of her”.

Similar to most, Perry faced plenty of free time in the last few years. During the coronavirus pandemic, Perry said he missed “The energy of playing rock ‘n’ roll” and “The adrenaline of…being on stage”. He said he “noticed a difference” within himself and was aging too quickly during the time off.

Thankfully he chose the right career because according to Perry “Rock ‘n’ roll keeps you young”.

Reflecting on his career with Hollywood Vampires, Perry described it as “Probably as close to being a garage band as you can get.”

Surprisingly, even with a decades-long career, Perry said he doesn’t own much memorabilia. However, what he does own is rather impressive. Perry always wanted to own something Elvis previously owned and now he can proudly say he owns a pistol that Elvis “carried for years”.

Joe Esposito, Elvis’s road manager, previously owned the pistol. When Esposito was putting his daughter through college, he needed money and contacted Billie Perry to see if Joe Perry was interested in buying the pistol.

“If I could have gotten a guitar pic I would have been happy” however the pistol is now “the one thing I treasure most,” explained Perry.
