Slash is on Ryan Gosling’s song from the Barbie movie, “I’m Just a Ken.”
On the red carpet for the premiere of the new movie, producer Mark Ronson talked about working with Ryan Gosling on the tune and casually mentioned that the legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist is on the record.
Slash is Ronson’s “all-time hero” and though he didn’t know him very well, Ronson said, “It never hurts to ask.”
Originally, Ronson was only planning on working with Gosling for the song.
“We hadn’t met before, we just went into the studio and talked about music,” Ronson said of Gosling. “As he started to get warmed up, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this guy is gonna murder this song.’ And of course, he would. He’s Ken. Who would understand this song better than him.”
After Gosling laid down the vocals, Ronson explained, “I sent [Slash] the song and he was like, ‘This is a good song. Cool, I’ll play on it.’ He kills it, he plays the solo at the end and the rhythm parts. It’s wonderful.”
Ronson confirmed Gosling was “psyched and satisfied” with the finished song that included Slash.
