Brock Purdy says he’s fine after incident during Monday’s practice

It was the first day in pads and Brock Purdy had a scare.

Purdy was hit near his healing arm on Monday, when defensive end Clelin Ferrell swatted the ball out of Purdy’s hand as he attempted a throw from the pocket during the team’s 11-on-11 drill. It was an overzealous play by Ferrell, and a play that had everyone holding their collective breath.

The good news: Purdy doesn’t seem to be experiencing any ill effects as he explained on Murph & Mac Tuesday morning.

“He just touched the ball out of my hand as I was going to throw it,” Purdy said. “It’s all good, though.

“I’m all good. I’m confident in my throwing.”

Purdy of course spent the offseason recovering from surgery on his throwing elbow after his ulnar collateral ligament was partially torn during the NFC Championship Game last season. The tear happened on a play in which a pass rusher hit his arm as Purdy wound up to throw, so you can see how Ferrell’s play on Monday was not seen in a positive light.

Purdy isn’t sweating it.

“You can’t think about the arm and dropping back and who’s going to touch it,” Purdy said. “You go through your reads, and if it happens, it happens. It’s part of football.”
