Steve Harwell, lead singer of San Jose’s own Smash Mouth, has died at the age of 56.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Harwell was “on his death bed” and had entered hospice care for liver failure.

Harwell was a founding member of Smash Mouth, best known for 90’s hits like “All-Star” and “Walking On The Sun”.  He left the band in 2021 to focus on his health issues.

In a statement, Harwell’s manager called him “a true American Original” who “lived a 100% full-throttle life.”
