Legendary singer Paul Rodgers is reflecting on his experience fronting Queen between 2004 and 2009.
In an interview, Rodgers talked about the experience saying, “It was a wild and exciting run. And we are still friends, and I love the guys.”
He was also asked what he thinks of Adam Lambert fronting the current incarnation of the band, Paul said, “Well, you know, I think he’s perfect for the band…I haven’t really followed them since then, but from what I’ve seen, he’s great.”
When Queen’s guitarist Brian May was previously asked how Queen has evolved through the years May said his relationship with drummer Roger Taylor is still great and he enjoys working with Lambert.
“I think our chemistry is better than it ever was,” May said. “I mean, Roger and I go back hundreds of years, as you probably know. But with Adam, I mean, it was good from the beginning, but it’s now amazing. We now have a real empathy on stage, a real kind of understanding. There’s a connection.”
Although things may be great, do not expect any new music from Queen any time soon. May acknowledged the band’s hesitation while considering recording new music.
“I think if people see Queen on a record label, they still want it to be Freddie singing. It could be Jesus Christ on it, but they’d still want Freddie, and I don’t blame people for that,” said May.
Adam Lambert also added, “It’s a lot of pressure if you think about it. If they’re going to put something out that’s new, it’s got to be at a certain level. It has to be the right thing. And I’ve always said, ‘Is it appropriate for me to be doing new material?’ I feel like it scares me.”
Bay Area fans can see Queen + Adam Lambert perform at Chase Center on Wednesday, November 8th, and Thursday, November 9th.
