U2 added a tribute to the victims of this weekend’s Hamas attacks in Israel to Sunday’s concert at the Las Vegas Sphere.
“In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence,” Bono told to the audience.
“But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed. So sing with us and those beautiful kids at that music festival,” he continued.
They then performed “Pride (In the Name of Love”, a song about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Bono changed the lyrics to the final verse to reflect the Hamas attacks: “Early morning, October 7 / As the sun is rising in the desert sky / Stars of David, they took your life / But they could not take your pride.”
Find the original “Pride” lyrics below:
One man come in the name of love
One man come and go.
One man come he to justify
One man to overthrow. In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love. One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed up on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss.In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky.
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride. In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
