Sammy Hagar is going to brew his new beer in Detroit.
Discussing his inspiration for the new venture, Sammy said, “I’ve always wanted to make beer because I know my fans are beer drinkers. I’ve been pouring tequila down their throats for like 35-40 years.”
The former Van Halen singer, who pioneered Cabo Wabo tequila, celebrated the launch of his own Mexican-style beer: Red Rocker Lager, during The Circle’s show at the Fillmore in Detroit Monday night.
He told the crowd, “It’s friggin Detroit! Come on. The rock and roll capital of the world in my opinion. It’s an industrial town. It’s a blue-collar town. It’s my kind of fans’ town. It’s the auto industry, which is my first love, our cars you know! I’ve been a car collector from day 1.”
When Hagar announced his lager, he described the taste as, “Kind of medium-bodied…It’s not as light as Corona or Tecate. It’s more like a Modelo.”
Red Rocker Lager is expected to be produced in nine different cities by next summer. Find more information here.
