About 100 or so UK punk fans were treated to a surprise show from Green Day at a London pub.
The band crammed into the corner of a pub called The Marquis and played a 13-song set including classics like “Welcome To Paradise”, “Basket Case”, and “American Idiot”, as well as their brand-new single “The American Dream Is Killing Me“.
“London, what a night!!! We’re going to remember that one for a long long time.” The band wrote on social media, “Thank you to The Marquis Covent Garden for having us and to the handful of you that got to witness it. Excited to see more of your faces tonight at Electric Ballroom and even way more of your faces on The Saviors Tour next summer!”
This isn’t the first time Green Day has performed a surprise gig in a pub. In October, not only did the band play a “secret show” in Las Vegas, but they also debuted their new single “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” revealed they are planning a stadium tour in 2024 with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and Linda Lindas, and played the entire Dookie album.
Armstrong also shocked the crowd at a pub in North London in May when he joined the covers band, Borderline Toxic, on stage to perform Green Day’s “Basket Case”.
Green Day will return to London in June on their ‘Saviors’ tour, playing a slightly larger venue – Wembley Stadium. Bay Area fans can see Green Day perform at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Friday, September 20th.
