Never mind that he’s lived like a rock star for much of his life. Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine says he expects to live into his “80s or maybe 90s.”
The 62-year-old, who’s survived a bout with cancer, says he’s confident he’ll live a longer-than-average life thanks to advancements in the medical field. “All of the crazy new developments that they’ve made for people with different chronic illnesses, me with chronic pain and with the cancer – I beat cancer, and I’m gonna keep fighting to keep it outside the door,” he says. “I’m realistically thinking, what kind of shape am I gonna be in in my 70s? And I’ve gotta tell you, I feel really good right now. So, I think, unless something really wrong happens, I see myself living till I’m in my 80s or maybe 90s, if I’m lucky.”
After Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2019, he underwent radiation 51 times and received nine chemotherapy treatments, he says. “It’s in remission,” he says. “I don’t act like, ‘Oh, poor me.’ ‘Cause it’s not ‘poor me’, man. I won.”
