Believe it or not, it’s been 25 years since Nevermind and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” injected Nirvana into rock history. Bassist Krist Novoselic sat down with Rolling Stone to commemorate to moment and reflects on what that time was like, saying:
“It just seemed like anything was possible, and there was a lot of innocence too. Coming of age…you have all this awareness.”
Novoselic also considered what it would be like if Kurt Cobain was still here:
You know Kurt was a cynical bastard…I don’t know what he’d think of a lot of music today. He wouldn’t hold his punches. Kurt just had so much passion, the way he’d sing and feel about the music. We all had this intensity.
He guessed that Cobain would have “loved” to have worked with Paul McCartney, like Novoselic was able to do, saying Nirvana as a whole was inspired by The Beatles and Sex Pistols.
