Hawkins Co Man Shot in the Throat

Hawkins Sheriff

A Rogersville resident told police he shot a man outside his home in self defense. Officers were called to Ben Hill Road on a call of shots fired just before 1:00 am Wednesday.

The resident, Fred Hill Jr., said 44-year-old Roy Fanning was in the street outside his home with a shotgun, when he fired a shot into the air and pointed the weapon at Hill. It was then that Hill fired, hitting Fanning in the throat.

Fanning was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities with the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
