If there’s a downside to the 4th of July, it’s breaking your back to get a choice spot for the festivities. A picnic table at the park, a good viewing location for fireworks, or in BRIAN KELLEY’s case . . . vacant sand on a Florida beach.
Those go fast so he loads his truck the night before: Flags, beers, coolers, tents, you name it. Then he gets up at 4:00 A.M. to beat the rush. After claiming his plot of beach he sets it all up. And then . . . back into the truck for a nap.
Quote, “If you don’t get your spot by like 4:30, you’re not getting on the beach. It’s gonna be packed. So, set up early, get ready.”
If he accomplishes his mission, it’s all cake from there. Quote, “[There’s] volleyball, grillin’, a DJ out on the beach. Sometimes people will pull their boats up right along the gulf and just kinda anchor out, swim out to ’em, paddleboard back-and-forth.”
(What 4th of July strategy do you meticulously execute every year?)
