Officer Killed

A Nicholasville Police officer was killed in a crash in Garrard County yesterday morning.  Officer Burke Rhoads was driving a cruiser on US 27, on his way to training in richmond.  State Police say he was southbound on US 27 when Chasity Gordon pulled onto the highway from Rogers Road.  Her car clipped Rhoads' cruiser, spinning him into oncoming traffic where he was hit by an SUV.  Officer Rhoads died at UK Hospital.  State Police say it was foggy at the time and that's assumed to have played a role in the crash.  Fellow officers say Rhoads was dedicated, consistent and always followed the rules.   He was a military veteran and an 8 year veteran of the Nicholasville department.  He is survived by a wife and three children.  Betts and West Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
