(LFUCG)–Fire Chief Kristin Chilton Thursday presented Meritorious Civilian Citations to Chase Covey and Parker Everhard; eight- and nine-year-old boys, who worked to save the life of a two-year-old family member.
Early this summer, Chase and Parker sprang into action to save Jacks Covey, 2, after he fell into a swimming pool. The two older boys were in the backyard playing when they heard Jacks fall into the pool. The boys immediately went to his aid. Chase jumped in the pool to get his little brother. Parker ran to get help from adults, and call 9-1-1.
Lexington Fire Lieutenant Robert Crovo, who responded to the 9-1-1 call, said the boys’ actions made an important difference. “Things could have turned out a lot differently if not for the quick action of Chase and Parker,” Crovo said.
Michelle Covey, Chase and Jacks’ mother, thanked the members of the public safety team for what they did to assist her family in what she calls a “nightmare situation.” “The fire department was there in minutes. We were rushed to UK hospital… and Jacks recovered with no injuries.” Covey told fire officials her family could never thank them enough.
In addition to being named “little heroes”, Chase and Parker were presented with the Meritorious Civilian Citations, signature Lexington Fire Department kiddie hats and other items from the fire department.
