Toxic to Your Pets

Wednesday morning, Dr. Ashley Keith of Crossroads Veterinary Clinic in Versailles listed the top 10 substances that can be toxic for your pets.

10.  Garden Products:  insecticides, fertilizers

9.  Plants:  There are 100's of toxic house plants and ornamental flowers

8.  Rodenticides:  rat and mouse poisons

7.  Insecticides:  bug sprays, concentrated citronella

6.  Chocolate:  candy, brownies, cake, etc.

5.  Household Items:  batteries, coins, glue, cleaners, etc.

4.  Veterinary Drugs:  many pet medications are in chewable forms.  Dogs and cats like them so, if given the opportunity, they will often eat the whole bottle.  This includes 'all natural' products as well (nutraceuticals)

3.  Human Food:  primarily processed meats, grapes, raisins and onions

2.  Over the Counter Products:    Ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc.

1.  Human Prescriptions:  blood pressure, antidepressants, and pain medications.
