DETROIT, MI — The Detroit Slow Roll in four years has grown from a few dozen casual bike riding enthusiasts to include thousands each week. With the exponential growth came the need for more order, organizers say. Below Shed 2 in Detroit’s Eastern Market, a long line of people propping bikes wound through the structure leading to a table where volunteers registered new Slow Roll members. Organizer Jeff Spakowski said the line began forming about 10 a.m. By 12:30 p.m., dozens were still waiting to register for memberships, costing $10 for the season, $50 for a premium membership with a T-shirt and extra perks, or nothing for those unable or unwilling to pay.
