DETROIT, MI — As Michigan voters contemplate raising sales taxes to address the state’s deteriorating roads, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on Tuesday painted a bleak picture of the future of the nation’s highway system under current federal funding structures. Advocating for corporate tax reform proposed by the White House that would raise about $478 billion for infrastructure improvement, Foxx told a Detroit crowd that gas tax revenue declines as a result of fuel efficiency enhancements could result in a $92 billion shortfall in the federal highway trust fund within six years.
