DETROIT, MI – They’re getting closer. The vote that will allow construction to begin on the new $650 million Red Wings Arena and entertainment district could come Tuesday from Detroit City Council. Plans were presented to a City Council planning and development subcommittee twice in two weeks before being moved in front of a formal Council.
Olympia Development of Michigan, the development arm of the Ilitch family, took the winter to review site plans before bringing new plans before the council for approval. The subcommittee Thursday deemed Olympia’s proposal fit to go before a formal council. Ultimately, zoning changes would allow construction to move start.
