ROCHESTER HILLS, MICHIGAN, May 5, 2022 ~ A Michigan Jeep owner is being sued after a dealership mechanic was struck with the Jeep by a coworker during an oil change, despite the owner not being present at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle at the time was a 19-year-old employee who reportedly did not know how to drive a manual transmission, had not taken drivers training, and had no driver’s license.

In Michigan, if an employee injures another employee, they cannot sue the boss for negligence.

Additionally, under Michigan law, if a car owner gives someone else permission to drive their car — such as a valet driver at a restaurant — the owner is legally responsible and automatically liable for any injuries or damage due to the driver’s negligence.
